COFFEE MORNING 3RD JUNE 2019

Another well supported Coffee Morning on 3rd June at the Bold Dragoon, with over 50 Members in attendance.

Liz Gausden, in her own inimitable style, announced forthcoming social events.

Speaker was Rosie Rushton who gave a very informative and interesting talk on how she became an author and details of the books she had written. It was apparent from the silence and concentration of the audience that they were all enthralled by her talk. We imagine all Members are now rushing to Waterstones to purchase copies.

For those Members who had booked lunch followed.

Many thanks to Julie and her team for firstly providing refreshments at the Coffee Morning, and then for a most delicious lunch afterwards.

Also sincere thanks to Mary Markham who provided absolutely scrumptious desserts.

COFFEE MORNING 1ST APRIL 2019

Another good attendance at the Coffee Morning on 1st April.

Unfortunately Liz was ill so Josephine stood in to announce events and Speaker.

Duncan Anderson and Volunteers were thanked for all their hard work in assisting with the Great British Spring Clean and ensuring the Village and Ways looked pristine.

Josephine informed that the Quiz on 14th March raised £310 for the Hope Centre, Northampton.

Sue Richards outlined details of the Fiori Musicali Concert to be held in St. Peter’s Church on Sunday 9th June.

It was good to see PCOS’s Steve Whiting and Nat Shaw in attendance to speak to Members.

Speaker was Richard Pestell who gave a very interesting and informative talk on St. John’s Rest Home.

As ever thanks to Julie for providing refreshments and delicious cakes and biscuits.

COFFEE MORNING 4TH FEBRUARY 2019

Around 50+ Members turned up for the Coffee Morning on 4th February (including some Members who had been unable to attend previously due to other commitments).

Liz gave an update on forthcoming events and advised that bookings for the Lunch on 3rd June were almost full.

Speaker was Tanya Haji-Miller from the Hope Centre. You could have heard a pin drop whilst she was giving a very comprehensive and heartfelt speech about the Homeless within our community. Several Members raised Questions afterwards.

A collection was taken and we are proud to announce £164 was handed to Tanya, as a contribution to their funding.

As ever Julie looked after us very well by providing refreshments and biscuits.

COFFEE MORNING 7TH JANUARY 2019

Our first Coffee Morning of the year welcomed around 45 Members – a good turnout in the cold weather.

Liz Gausden outlined forthcoming events and took names for the Members’ February Brunch.

Brian Welch was the guest speaker who gave a very informative talk on the various Walks he organises which include the Weston Favell Walking Group’s “shorter” monthly walks. These are advertised on our Website and on Circulars sent out to Members. Anyone is welcome to join in, whatever the weather.

Martin Brown, Chair Person, gave details of the proposed Quiz which Bridgewater Residents’ Assoc have challenged us to (hopefully early March). If anyone is interested please contact info@wfvrassoc.co.uk

If anyone is interested in joining the Walks more details are available from info@wfvrassoc.co.uk

As ever thanks to Julie who served refreshments and scrumptious biscuits.

DRINKS EVENING 17TH DECEMBER 2018

Our final social event of the year was held at the Bold Dragoon on 17th December, with 21 Members attending the Drinks Evening and enjoying another jolly evening. Some of us had come straight from Carol Singing in Ridgeway and Weston Way. Thanks must go to Julie for providing delicious nibbles.

We look forward to seeing Members at events in 2019 and thank everyone for their support this year.

We must also not forget Julie, who has afforded us wonderful hospitality and has offered ongoing support during 2019.

COFFEE MORNING 3RD DECEMBER 2018

Our Final Coffee Morning of 2018 (on 3rd December) proved to be as popular as ever. Members munched their way through mince pies provided by Julie, and sang Carols enthusiastically.

The Raffle raised £95 for our funds.

Sincere thanks, as ever, must go to Julie and her Team who provided a most delicious lunch for those who had booked.

Also we must once again thank Mary Markham for providing such a scrumptious dessert.

COFFEE MORNING 5TH NOVEMBER 2018

There are outstanding Coffee Mornings and there are phenomenal Coffee Mornings. The Coffee Morning on Monday 5th November was undoubtedly the latter.

Rachel Boyles was present to sell her lovely cards.

The big event was to thank Anne Jones for her contribution to the success of Weston Favell Village Residents’ Association. Anne has now retired from Committee, but was responsible for setting up the Association and has been a driving force since inception. Liz Gausden, as ever in her own inimitable style, paid tribute to her with a beautiful song which said it all. The worshipful the Mayor of Northampton Cllr Tony Ansell (accompanied by the Lady Mayoress) arrived to also pay tribute with a warm and heartfelt  speech. Mary Markham, who unfortunately could not attend, sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Anne’s Daughter Rachel and Daughter-in-law Emma also turned up for this special event.

Over 60 Members turned out in force to express their thanks to Anne for her “marvellous” achievement and to join in this wonderful occasion.

Following the Coffee Morning Committee Members, the Mayor and Lady Mayoress,  attended a Lunch, organised to show our appreciation for all Anne’s efforts over the years.

Sincere thanks must go to Julie of the Bold Dragoon for providing coffee and refreshments initially, and for serving what can only be described as a most delicious  meal.

In addition special thanks must also go to Mary Markham who provided scrumptious desserts.

A day to remember.

COFFEE MORNING 1ST OCTOBER 2018

As ever the Coffee Morning on 1st October was an outstanding success, with around 40 members in attendance.

Eileen Fox gave a very informative talk on Dementia.

Julie looked after us as always, with refreshments and biscuits.

Liz Gausden took names for the November Brunch and the December Lunch, which will be held at The Bold Dragoon. Liz also paid tribute to Peter who will be sadly missed.

Julie will continue to support our Social Events, for which we are truly grateful.

COFFEE MORNING 3RD SEPT 2018

The Bold Dragoon continues to be an important community asset.  Peter and Julie and the staff have consistently supported the social activities of the WFVRA allowing us to host many events for the residents, such as the monthly coffee mornings, brunches and regular Association social evenings. The facilities afforded the Macmillan coffee morning and bric-a-brac sale on the morning of 3rd September are testament to the willingness of the Bold to be part of our busy and lively village.  Indeed the opening of the garden as well as the restaurant for the Macmillan morning contributed to the pleasant surroundings and ultimately the record amount of £578.45 raised by the event.
Over 50 members attended this annual event.

Our thanks also go to Liz Gausden, the driving force behind the event, and for weeks beforehand the warehouse keeper for the mass of bric-a-brac collected.

But it seems that not only the WFVRA and its members are appreciative of the work and service provided by the Bold Dragoon team. Apart from receiving the recent award for Chronicle & Echo Restaurant of the Year 2018, The Bold has again reached the finals of the SME National Business Awards 2018.  Hopefully the final judgement will recognise what is self-evident to us all – the Bold is a pub which sees itself as part of the community.
