Cemetery Progress Bulletin, Number 7, Spring 2023

Greetings from the cemetery,

After the long, dark and inactive winter, dreaming of gardening and forever analysing the seed’s catalogue, it was joyful to see the snowdrops and crocuses appearing early this February in the borders and on the meadow, promising the coming of spring. The gardening fever intensified and the borders at the top end were prepared for wild flower seeds.

Suddenly, Christmas appeared again and my lovely friend, Rose, donated tulips and lilies which have been replanted in the borders, and also dwarf irises which have been replanted in between the crocuses. Next February, the meadow will look magnificent.

Weston Favell residents might wonder why I put so much effort into planting borders and creating habitats for pollinators and insects, but no other than Sir David Attenborough can answer this.

He says that ‘nature is in crisis’, but that ‘we have the solutions’. He urges ‘people to unite behind action to save it’.

Three charities, RSPB, WWF and National Trust, also launched a joint initiative at halting destruction of nature across the UK. (Please become members and volunteers if you can!).

Sir David Attenborough added that ‘the truth is, every one of us, no matter who we are or where we live, can and must play a part in restoring nature, and NOW is the time for action.’

Any small thing you do in your garden is a good start, for example, planting a square meter of wildflowers or making window boxes.

We would like some more volunteers in the cemetery group and spare plants would be gratefully appreciated! (spare plants can be left at 34 Church Way).

Hoping for more joint effort,

Marna
